The relationship between writer and editor or coach is a significant one. A bond of trust must be established for a writer to fully entrust the creative product of her or his mind and spirit into another's hands. It is my commitment to honor that reality in my work, in my interactions with writers who become my clients and with writers I meet only in passing.
I am sure of the truth of a saying often repeated and attributed to various sources: There is nothing too hard about writing—except that a writer must sit down in front of his pad of paper, her typewriter or computer and open a vein. A writer who wants to find his own voice, the story only she can tell, must be willing to bleed on the page, to take enormous risk, to allow words to carry the truths of his unique heart and mind.
It is essential that any writing teacher, coach, or editor respect that simple and complex commitment each writer makes.
My philosophy is perhaps best reflected in the things my clients say about working with me.
I have just returned to full time work as fiction and memoir editor / writing coach after a year's hiatus due to family emergencies. I have been grateful during that time for ongoing work with established clients. To say thank you to them and in an effort to expand my client base quickly, for all current projects and for initial projects with my first ten new clients I have set my rates below the norm for editors with my experience and skills. You will find the details on my services page.
